Introduction of Vanadium-nitrogen

Vanadium-nitrogen is a new type of ferroalloy additive that can replace ferro-vanadium for the production of micro-alloyed steel. The addition of vanadium-nitride to steel can improve the comprehensive mechanical properties of steel such as strength, toughness, ductility and thermal fatigue resistance, and make the steel have good weldability. Adding vanadium-nitride at the same strength can save 30-40% of vanadium addition, thereby reducing costs.

Structure of Vanadium-nitrogen

Vanadium-nitrogen has two crystal structures: one is V3N, hexagonal crystal structure, with extremely high hardness, microhardness is about 1900HV, melting point is unmeasured; the other is VN, density 6.13, relative molecular mass 64.95. Face-centered cubic crystal structure, microhardness is about 1520HV, melting point is 2360 degrees. They all have high wear resistance.

Taking the construction industry as an example, the strength of new tertiary steel bars produced using vanadium-nitrogen technology is improved. This not only enhances the safety and seismic resistance of the building, but also saves 10% to 15% of steel than using secondary steel bars. With this alone, China can save about 7.5 million tons of steel bars every year, correspondingly reduce about 12.4 million tons of iron ore concentrate, save 6.6 million tons of coal, and save 3.3 million tons of related auxiliary materials. At the same time, the emission of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide has been greatly reduced, and the dual benefits of resource conservation and environmental protection have been received.

Production of Vanadium-nitrogen

Vanadium-nitrogen is a blank made of raw materials such as vanadium pentoxide, carbon powder, and active agent. Under normal pressure and nitrogen atmosphere protection, the vanadium-nitrogen is formed by reaction at a high temperature of 1500 to 1800 ° C.

The research and development of Vanadium-nitrogen is difficult, and it belongs to the top-edge technology in the metallurgical industry. At present, only VAMETCO and Pangang in the world can produce Vanadium-nitrogen. Through research and development, Pangang of China has pioneered a “non-vacuum continuous production” technology that is more advanced than foreign countries, which fills the gap in the production of vanadium-nitrogen in China.

Chemical Composition of Vanadium-nitrogen

Vanadium-nitrogen are divided into two grades according to their different chemical compositions. Their chemical compositions are as follows:

Items Chemical Composition of Vanadium-nitrogen w/%
V N C P S
VN12 77 ~ 81 10.0 ~ <14.0 ≤10.0 ≤0.06 ≤0.10
VN16 77 ~ 81 14.0 ~ 18.0 ≤6.0 ≤0.06 ≤0.10

Note: After negotiation between the supplier and the buyer, and in the contract, the supplier can provide the inspection results of oxygen, aluminum, silicon, and manganese.

Vanadium-nitrogen Density

The apparent density of vanadium-nitrogen should not be less than 3.0g / cm³.

Vanadium-nitrogen Particle Size

The particle size of the vanadium-nitrogen should be 10mm-40mm, and the particle size of less than 10mm in the product should not be greater than 5% of the total.
According to the requirements of the user, after consultation between the supplier and the buyer and indicated in the contract, other vanadium-nitrogen with other particle size requirements can also be supplied.

Characteristics of Vanadium-Nitrogen

It has a more effective strengthening and grain refining effect than vanadium iron.
The vanadium addition amount is saved, and the vanadium-nitrogen can save 20-40% vanadium compared to ferro-vanadium under the same strength condition.
The yield of vanadium and nitrogen is stable, which reduces the fluctuation of steel performance.
Easy to use and less loss. Adopt high-strength moisture-proof packaging, which can be directly put into the furnace.

Vanadium-nitrogen is a new type of alloy additive. It is more effective in strengthening and refining grains than ferro-vanadium, and can replace ferro-vanadium for the production of microalloyed steel. Widely used in high strength low alloy steel for effective vanadium and nitrogen microalloying. Promote the precipitation of carbon, vanadium, and nitrogen compounds in steel, and the yield of vanadium and nitrogen is stable, and the precipitation strengthening and grain refinement are more effectively played. Improve the comprehensive mechanical properties of steel such as strength, toughness, ductility and thermal fatigue resistance, and make steel have good weldability.

Application of Vanadium-nitrogen

Vanadium-nitrogen can be used in structural steel, tool steel, pipe steel, reinforcing steel and cast iron. Vanadium-nitrogen are used in high-strength low-alloy steels, which can effectively perform micro-alloying of vanadium and nitrogen at the same time, promote the precipitation of carbon, vanadium, and nitrogen compounds in the steel, and play a more effective role in precipitation strengthening and grain refinement.
