Ferromanganese Nitride Main Features
Ferromanganese nitride is an indispensable alloying agent for the production of special alloy steel, stainless steel and heat-resistant steel. It is usually obtained by nitrogen filling with medium and low carbon
ferromanganese. Ferromanganese nitride is mainly used as an additive for nitrogen in steelmaking, which can improve the mechanical properties of steel, refine grains, and stabilize austenite.
The content of main elements of ferromanganese nitride is high, the content of harmful impurities such as phosphorus is low, the utilization rate of nitrogen after adding the melt is high, and the adding amount is small. Nitrogen can improve the strength and plasticity of steel, expand the austenite zone, refine the grains, and improve its processing performance. Manganese nitride can replace part of nickel and reduce cost.
Ferromanganese Nitride Uses
In China,
silicon manganese nitride is mainly used to increase the nitrogen content of oriented silicon steel. Ferromanganese nitride is mainly used abroad.
Nitrogen-containing ferromanganese can be used to smelt multi-component alloy steel. Among them, nitrogen can improve the strength and plasticity of steel and expand the austenite zone of steel. Therefore, ferromanganese nitride can replace nickel in many steel grades in stainless steel, and nickel is a scarce precious element. Ferromanganese nitriding can be divided into liquid nitriding and solid nitriding, in which solid nitriding is to make solid low-carbon ferromanganese powder contact with nitrogen in the vacuum resistance furnace to be nitrided.
In Germany, it was suggested that the ground ferromanganese or manganese be nitridated in a rotary kiln. The process is similar to the production of lime nitrogen in the rotary kiln at 923-1273K. The operation uses only a small nitrogen overpressure. In order for the ferromanganese particles to truly "permeate nitrogen", it is important that the charge rolls frequently. In this way, the following effect will be produced: manganese nitride will be formed in each particle, the particles will not be sintered together, and will remain the same when they are released from the furnace.
The production of ferromanganese nitride in my country is generally carried out in a vacuum resistance furnace. The raw material used is solid low-carbon ferromanganese or metal manganese. After ball milling and briquetting, the nitrogen content of the alloy is 4%-6% in a nitrogen atmosphere of 1273-1373K.
