What are Zirconia Bricks? Zirconia bricks are refractory bricks made of zirconium dioxide. Zirconia-containing refractory products include zircon bricks, zircon corundum bricks, zirconia mullite bricks, zirconia hollow ball bricks and so on.

Zirconia bricks are refractory brick products produced with zirconia as the main raw material. The manufacturing method mainly includes two kinds of firing method and fusion casting method. There are three crystal forms of zirconia: monoclinic, tetragonal and cubic. When zirconia is heated to about 1100°C, the crystal form will change from monoclinic to tetragonal. At the same time, it is accompanied by a volume shrinkage of 7%, and vice versa. The tetragonal zirconia will appear cubic crystal form above 2300℃. The densities of the three crystal forms are 5.68g/cm3 (monoclinic), 6.10g/cm3 (tetragonal), and 6.27g/cm3 (cubic).
 
Zirconia has a high melting point, strong high-temperature structure and resistance to acid and alkali corrosion. Zirconium dioxide, chemical formula: ZrO2. It is the main oxide of zirconium. It is usually white, odorless and tasteless crystals, hardly soluble in water, hydrochloric acid and dilute sulfuric acid. Zirconia hollow ball bricks generally contain a small amount of zirconia. It is chemically inactive and has the properties of high melting point, high resistivity, high refractive index and low thermal expansion coefficient. This makes it an important high temperature resistant material, ceramic insulating material and ceramic sunscreen, and it is also the main raw material for artificial drills.

①Dense zirconia brick
 
Dense zirconia bricks are formed by isostatic pressing. Its technical indicators are ZrO2>65%, apparent porosity<2.0%, and bulk density about 4.25g/cm3. In E glass, the temperature exceeds 1370°C, there is corrosion. It is used in the bottom of the melting part where the temperature of the molten glass is slightly lower in the E glass unit kiln, the transition channel, the bottom of the forming channel, the forming channel flow trough and the slat bracket, etc. In addition, dense zirconia bricks are also used as backing bricks for dense chrome bricks.
 
Commonly used international brands include ZS-1300, ZS-1500, ZS-835 and ZS-78 produced by American CORHART company. ZS65WA produced by VGT-DYKO in Germany. UC-Z, UC-CZ, UC-CZB, etc. produced by Shinagawa Corporation of Japan.
 
In recent years, Chinese refractory companies have introduced foreign technology and equipment, and have also produced sintered dense zirconia bricks formed by isostatic pressing. And it has been partially used in domestic glass and fiberglass kilns. The German VGT-DYKO company has developed a new type of dense zirconia brick with a coarse grain structure, which greatly improves the internal structure of the brick, and further improves the brick's resistance to rapid cold and heat. Its bulk density is 3.75g/cm3, and its porosity is 17%. The brick grade is ZS65AR, which has good thermal shock resistance and is suitable for drawing liquid troughs and slab holding bricks.
 
②Standard zirconia brick
 
The brick has a ZrO2 content of approximately 66% and a bulk density of 3.7g/cm3. Has good thermal stability and peel resistance. It is used in the breast wall and back wall of the feeding port area where powder erosion is serious, the breast wall and roof brick of the furnace observation hole brick and the passage flame space, and the burner brick.

The fiber made of zirconia is a polycrystalline refractory fiber material. Due to the high melting point, non-oxidation and other excellent properties of ZrO2 substance, ZrO2 fiber has a higher service temperature than other refractory fibers such as alumina fiber, mullite fiber, and aluminum silicate fiber. The zirconia fiber is used for a long time in an ultra-high temperature oxidation atmosphere above 1500 ℃, and the extreme use temperature is as high as 2200 ℃, and it can maintain a complete fiber shape even at 2500 ℃.
