What are the advantages and disadvantages of graphite electrodes compared to copper electrodes during discharge?

Comparison in electrical discharge machining: graphite electrode has low loss, high removal rate, and no pollution to the environment in the electrolyte. More stable and not deformed.

Advantages of graphite electrodes:

The discharge generates a high temperature on the electrodes. Graphite has a melting point of 3850 ± 50 ℃ and a boiling point of 4250 ℃. Copper has a melting point of 1083.4 ± 0.2 ℃ and a boiling point of 2567 ℃. Therefore, graphite has higher temperature resistance than copper.

Disadvantages:

In terms of mechanical properties, graphite is brittle and copper is more flexible. Copper electrodes are generally processed with high precision abrasive tools and small abrasive tools. Graphite is used on slightly lower precision and larger molds.

Rongsheng Kiln Refractory is seeking truth from facts about its products, and will never take advantage of its strengths and avoid weaknesses.
